Biography
Dr Caroline Lemerle joined the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of Canberra (UC) as Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics in 2015. Dr Lemerle recently completed eight years as Research Program Manager responsible for Agricultural Systems Management at the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (commonly known as ACIAR). The ACIAR Program commissions integrative economic, social and biophysical research within a systems context.
Dr Lemerle has a BSc (Hons) from the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of London, two Masters degrees in Science (James Cook ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ) and Environmental Law (ANU), and a PhD in livestock nutrition from the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of Melbourne. In addition, Dr Lemerle has a Graduate Certificate in Management from the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of Western Sydney and is a recent graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors program. From 2004, Dr Lemerle was General Manager of the National Rural Issues Portfolio (and before that the Sustainable Systems Program) at the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation. Prior to that she worked for a number of years in senior management positions within the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and NSW Agriculture.
In the 1980’s Dr Lemerle worked as a research scientist with the forerunner to the Victorian Department of Primary Industries, and in the late 1970’s worked in Papua New Guinea in agricultural research, extension and teaching.
At the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of Canberra Dr Lemerle has roles in mentoring PhD students within the faculty (and more broadly across the university), provide guest lectures, be a grant development advisor to Australian Institute for Sustainable Communities and other relevant UC centres, provide workshops to staff on aspects of grant writing, be a critical friend to early career researchers on developing and maintain research relationships in developing countries, and advise on research with impact for international development.
