6 April 2017: The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of Canberra has been named among the world’s top 100 young universities in the prestigious 2017 Times Higher Education (THE) Young ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Rankings published TODAY.
The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ has risen to number 91 in THE’s list of the best universities under 50 years of age, worldwide.
According to a new THE analysis, the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ is also ranked as 30th in the world for Generation Y universities, or those founded between 1986 and 2000.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deep Saini said he was delighted with the announcement which shows the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ is moving in the right direction.
“This result confirms the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ's sharp rise as one of the best young universities in the world and we are determined to continue this upward trajectory,” Professor Saini said.
The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of Canberra has operated as a university for less than 27 years, after it was established through the Dawkins higher education reforms to replace the Canberra College of Advanced Education.
The THE’s Young ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Rankings, previously known as the THE 150 Under 50, have now been extended to include 200 institutions – up from 150 in last year’s list.
This ranking looks at universities’ performance indicators in five areas of higher education excellence: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
Professor Saini said he was pleased to see that despite the institution’s youth, the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ’s reputation in research and education is growing and that its international outlook is being recognised worldwide.
“This is a major achievement in a very short period of time and it is testament to the hard work and dedication of our academics and staff,” Professor Saini said.
