A course with Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) means the Australian Government has subsidised a portion of your degree, reducing the total balance you are required to pay (known as the student contribution amount).
The CSP amount is determined by the course you are undertaking and the industry you'll be working in after graduation.
Some students (such as Australian citizens or holders of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa) may be eligible to apply to defer payment of their tuition fees via the Commonwealth Government's FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP schemes.
Visit our fees page for useful information about eligibility and how to apply and pay. You can apply for FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP once you have enrolled in a course.

Education FAQs
There’s no better place than the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ of Canberra to study education!
UC offers teaching degrees that go way beyond the traditional classroom. Our Initial Teacher Education courses are designed to give you more in-class learning and career-long benefits than any other program of their kind in Australia.
From your first year, you’ll gain hands-on experience through our school-based clinics in Canberra schools. These unique opportunities let you plan, teach and reflect in real classrooms, supported by expert academics and mentors. You’ll graduate ready to teach with confidence and adaptability in any educational setting.
We also believe that support doesn’t stop at graduation. With professional development opportunities, scholarships and innovative programs that combine study with school-based work, you’ll have everything you need to build a rewarding teaching career from day one.
UC’s Bachelor of Education offers flexible study modes, including a flexible online option. Every education student will still need to complete in-person, on-country experiences in schools.
For coursework, you can choose the delivery mode that best suits your lifestyle:
On campus: all classes in person at UC, with school-based placements in the ACT region.
Blended: a mix of online and on campus classes, with school-based placements in the ACT region.
Online: most classes online, with school-based placements in the ACT region.
Through UC’s Affiliated Schools Program, you will complete at least 80 days of placement, working across different year levels to build adaptability and real classroom skills. Your degree finishes with a 30-day immersive teaching experience, where you will take the lead in the classroom under expert mentorship. That’s the UC Difference! We’re here to ensure you get practical, supportive and hands-on learning across your education course, so you graduate classroom-ready.
You may still be able to apply for a Bachelor of Education at UC even if you do not have an ATAR, or if your ATAR is lower than you hoped. Many students enter through our alternative pathway options, such as previous study at TAFE, a bridging or enabling program, or by applying as a mature-age student with work or life experience.
In some cases, credit transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be available, which could shorten the time it takes to complete your degree.
If you are unsure of what to do next, you can contact our Future Students team to talk through your options and help you find the best way for you to start a teaching degree.
Whether you’re looking to change careers or begin your career journey, the quickest way to become a teacher depends on your background. If you’re starting fresh, a Bachelor of Education is the standard route, usually taking four years full time. Depending on your previous study, you may be able to shorten this through credit transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
If you already hold a bachelor’s degree, you could be eligible for UC’s Master of Teaching degree, which typically takes two years full time. This is a graduate-entry pathway designed for people who already have study in areas relevant to the Australian school curriculum.
